Water Leak Detection in Riverside, CA

Plumbing MATTers Rooter & Plumbing Services

A hidden leak costs you money every day it runs, and the damage it does inside a wall or under a yard usually costs more than the leak itself. The hard part is knowing where it is.

That’s what we do. We find hidden leaks in homes and businesses across Riverside and the Inland Empire with professional detection equipment, so we can show you exactly where the problem is before anyone cuts into a wall or digs up a lawn.

Call (909) 714-2207 to schedule leak detection. Water coming through a ceiling or wall right now? We take emergency calls 24/7.

Signs of a hidden water leak

  • A higher water bill with no change in how much water you use
  • The water meter moving when every fixture in the house is off
  • Water stains on ceilings or walls, or paint that bubbles or peels
  • A musty smell or mold in a closet, cabinet or along baseboards
  • Soggy patches in the yard, or one area of grass that’s greener than the rest
  • Sound of running water when nothing is on
  • Low water pressure that came on gradually
  • Cracks in the driveway or walkway from soil washing out underneath

Try the water meter test

Turn off every faucet, appliance and irrigation zone. Find your water meter (usually in a box near the street) and note the reading, or watch the small leak indicator dial. Wait 30 minutes without using any water. If the reading changed or the dial moved, you have a leak somewhere between the meter and your fixtures. Call us and we’ll find it.

Where leaks hide

  • Inside walls and ceilings, from supply lines and fittings
  • Under the slab: see our slab leak detection and repair page
  • The main water line between the meter and the house
  • Yard and irrigation lines, where a broken line can run for months unnoticed
  • Toilets. A worn flapper can quietly waste a lot of water.
  • Water heaters and the valves around them
  • Exterior pipes and hose bibs, especially old copper with corroded joints

How we find hidden leaks

We use the right tool for the situation, and usually more than one to confirm:
  • Electronic leak detection equipment to narrow down the area
  • Acoustic listening devices that pick up the sound of water escaping a pressurized pipe through walls, floors, concrete and soil
  • Thermal imaging cameras to see temperature differences from leaking hot water lines and wet building materials
  • Pressure testing to confirm a leak and isolate which part of the system it’s in
  • Line-tracing equipment to map where buried and hidden pipes actually run
Pinpointing the leak means the repair only opens the area that needs it, not half a wall or the whole yard.

After we find it

Once we’ve located the leak, we show you where it is, explain what caused it, and go over your repair options before any work starts. We repair it ourselves, whether that’s a fitting inside a wall, a section of water line, a slab leak, or a full repipe when older pipes keep failing.

What our customers say

We have a 5.0 rating from more than 450 Google reviews. Leak detection comes up a lot:
“He quoted me a good price to replace my failing water heater and also found a leak that I did even know I had going into the water heater. He also found that the pressure valve going into the house was going bad and I got that replaced as well.”
Chris H., Google review
“He did a good job replacing the very old, leaking, exposed outside pipe that goes into the house and provides water for the master bathroom.”
Julian B., Google review
“We discovered a leak in our home and I called Plumbing Matters—Matt picked up on the first ring… He arrived quickly, identified the issue right away, and kept us informed with text updates.”

Leak detection FAQs

How do you find a leak without opening walls?

Acoustic devices hear the leak through the wall or floor, thermal cameras show where water is cooling or heating the surface, and pressure testing confirms which line is leaking. Together they let us pinpoint the spot before anything is opened.

How long does leak detection take?

Most leaks are found in a single visit. Leaks under slabs or in long buried lines can take longer to trace, and we’ll keep you updated as we go.

My water bill doubled. Is that definitely a leak?

Not always. A running toilet or an irrigation timer can do it too. Start with the water meter test above. If the meter moves with everything off, it’s a leak, and we can find it.

Can a small leak really do much damage?

Yes. A slow leak inside a wall can rot framing and grow mold for months before any stain shows. Under a slab or in the yard, it can wash out the soil underneath. Finding it early is always cheaper.

Do you repair the leak too?

Yes. We handle the repair after we find it, from fixing a fitting to rerouting a line or replacing old pipes.
